Angie, for actual CDs, I guess artist or indi-label websites are best. For downloads, maybe eMusic? But then the question becomes: How to discover new music if there's noplace to go and browse? I like < a href="http://www.pandora.com">Pandora</a>, which creates stations based on your song or artist seeds. It's an outgrowth of the music genome project. There's a free version, although I subscribe. It's really amazing. I've discovered all kinds of artists I wouldn't have found otherwise. I just wish they would hurry up and include classical and more international music.

Charlotte, It's funny. I always feel so self-indulgent when I go on and on about what I think about what I'm reading. But then I see that people really click on the "what I'm reading posts." And now you say this one is your favorite post ever! Thanks.

Your summary and analysis of the male-prison-rape essay is brilliant, as is so much else in this posting.

I hear you about the sanctuary work and how it feeds your own organic intellectualism. It makes me think about many things, including how I can make what is around me part of my own organic intellectual process.

Anyway, this post might be my favorite yet. :-)

These books sound great! And I love Sherman Alexie. pattrice, or anyone, is there any website that you would recommend to buy music from? Or should I just go to musicians websites? Here in Mt. Pleasant, michigan, there is no longer any place (besides walmart) to buy music, let alone a locally owned, small business.
