I hear you. I feel the same way when I read such things. Maybe we both need to read the zine I just blogged about, counterbalance which offers tips for transforming despair into something like hope. The zine writer and I both draw on the work of Joanna Macy, who used “Despair and Empowerment” workshops to help people work through despair-induced stasis concerning nuclear weapons. And we do have to admit that, although it used to seem like the US and the USSR were poised to blow the world to bits, anti-nuclear activism has brought us back from that brink. A bit.
